Committed to Equity

"Why fit in when you were born to stand out

- Dr. Seuss

What is an effective

urban educator?

An effective urban educator understands the importance diversity and equity have in a classroom, and how teaching strategies should be designed for the diverse population, giving all students the chance to "stand out".

Implementing UDL

With a focus on special education, I have a conceptual understanding of the importance in designing lessons and class discussions geared towards all student learners, helping support their academic success. Likewise, I strongly emphasize the implementation of Universal Design for Learning, the process of using a variety of teaching methods, removing any barriers learners might be faced with and ultimately providing all students equal opportunities to succeed in the classroom. I promise to accommodate students and to ensure my lessons are not designed with the "average" student in mind. I believe all students learn differently and I try to create lessons which shed light on to these different areas. My goal as a young educator is to design appropriate lessons, giving all types of learners the ability to succeed, while challenging their conceptual understanding of the content at hand.

I vow to implement equity in my classroom, where all ethnicities, religions, learning styles, abilities and disabilities are, embraced

and incorporated into my lessons.
